This short was inspired by the lighting in shows like Daredevil and the action in movies like The Matrix.
Models and rigged characters from TurboSquid
This is a recreation of the Two Become One keyblade from the game Kingdom Hearts II.
The first photo is with simple materials, the second is PBR based, and the third inspired by 1940s cartoons.
The lighting of the first photo recreates the title screen of Final Fantasy VII.
For this assignment, I had to model a piece of clothing or some type of accessory in Autodesk Maya. I chose to do a ring I often wear, since I could reference it easily.
This assignment forced me to figure out how the gears would correctly interconnect with the top and bottom segments, so it could appear as functional as it is in real life. I chose to render the gear ring as if it was in a high-end advertisement.
Here I recreated George Ault’s studio of which he featured in multiple of his paintings. I used Autodesk Maya to model and render it in 3D. There were a lot of oddly shaped objects in this room which forced me to learn new techniques in the modeling process. Many objects were adjusted so they would appear accurate in perspective to the original painting, but I didn’t want them to feel out of place at other angles. I learned a few techniques, like adding realistic curtains and a fake sky outside the window.
Using the Djoz Bootstrap template, I created a site about musician Mk.gee and his album Two Star & The Dream Police. This required me to learn how to edit HTML files using Adobe Dreamweaver. From the beginning of the project I wanted a scrolling carousel that displayed the lyrics with accompanying artwork. I learned how to incorporate this feature into the template. Mk.gee has described his album as a storybook, and I felt the carousel and visual design of the site represented his vision well.
My friends and I created a simple game where a barista girl has to find ingredients to create a cup of coffee. I was the sole programmer working on the project, so there was a lot I had to figure out.
My friend Kaitlyn🔗 and I came up with the main concept of the game. I wrote the dialogue and programmed while she designed the items around the cafe and the barista.
Sarah🔗 later joined the project and did the background.
This long lasting project got me out of my comfort zone. I was assigned to write a short story and design characters that would be featured. I envisioned a world with designs similar to ukiyo-e art. I chose to employ a water color-like design with disconnecting shapes, as the world was slowly disappearing within the story. Luckily we had a chance to depict the world as an assignment.
Later for another class, we had the opportunity to 3D model a character we’ve previously designed. I chose to make a 3D model of Lily, and I wanted it to feel faithful to the original vision I had. While designing a world and characters isn’t typically my area, I enjoyed what I came up with.
As an avid and somewhat obsessive music listener, I like to challenge myself to make unique covers for my many playlists. I currently have two main “series” of playlists.
Recently, I’ve been working on the marıgold series. This series confronts death and liminality, and features a vague plotline throughout the playlists’ chosen music. This series is more challenging, as I try to employ a specific tone or theme with each cover while making each totally unique.
The New Age Future series has me create a new playlist and cover every few months with new music I enjoy. The cover themes come and go in waves, yet they always include a distinctive main border color. I see these as digital collages, like a visual playlist.
Since this series is often updated, I like the covers to immediately feel connected to one another. The newest three covers are themed around memories.
These are usually made in Paint.NET or Photoshop.
